Women’s History Month Feature: Debra Haaland

Debra Haaland is a member of New Mexico’s Laguna Pueblo and the first Native American Interior Secretary. In 2018 she became one of the first two women to be elected to Congress. From 2015-2017 she was the Chair of the New Mexico Democratic Party. She campaigned under the slogan “Congress has never heard a voice like mine”. Debra is immensely passionate about addressing climate change and violence against women. She is determined to give Indigenous communities and tribal members a platform to be properly represented within the US Government. In her acceptance speech she said, “ I’ll be fierce for all of us, for our planet, and all of our protected land” .
