Farewell Reception Honoring Dr. Aaron Wendelboe

Join us in celebrating the remarkable contributions and dedication of Dr. Aaron Wendelboe, Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the Hudson College of Public Health, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences. The Department is hosting a farewell reception to honor Dr. Wendelboe’s outstanding career and achievements.

Dr. Aaron Wendelboe holds the Edward E. and Helen T. Bartlett Foundation Chair in Public Health and the Williams Companies Presidential Professor. His academic journey began with a BS in Microbiology from Brigham Young University in 2000, followed by an MS in Public Health from the University of Utah in 2002, and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006. He is also an alumnus of the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) program of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where he served with distinction in the uniformed Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

Since joining the faculty at OUHS Hudson College of Public Health in 2008, Dr. Wendelboe has made significant scientific contributions to infectious disease epidemiology, thrombosis disease epidemiology, and disease surveillance methodology. His service as Interim State Epidemiologist at the Oklahoma State Department of Health during the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic showcased his dedication to public health, where he advised the Governor and served the citizens of Oklahoma with distinction.

Dr. Wendelboe’s ongoing commitment to bridging academic and applied public health is evident in his roles on the University of Oklahoma Medical Center’s Infection Control and Prevention Committee and the OUHSC’s Emergency Response Committee. He collaborates with national, tribal, and local stakeholders, including the Indian Health Service, CDC, the Oklahoma Area Tribal Epi Center, and the Oklahoma State and County Health Departments, in preparing for and responding to pandemics such as influenza H1N1, Ebola, Zika, and COVID-19.
