BSE Faculty, Staff, Students and Alumni Publish Manuscript in Cancer Causes and Control (CACO)

Sameer Vali Gopalani, Amanda E. Janitz, Janis E. Campbell, Sixia Chen, Sydney A. Martinez, Ashley H. White, Amber S. Anderson, and Jennifer D. Peck published a manuscript in the Cancer Causes & Control journal titled “HPV vaccination coverage and factors among American Indians in Cherokee Nation”.  In this paper, the researchers found that persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) is a cause of cervical cancer and is linked with other cancers. The burden of these HPV-associated cancers is disproportionately higher among American Indian and Alaska Native persons. Nationally, the incidence of HPV-associated cancers was 1.2 times higher among American Indian and Alaska Native women.
